About
The Mango Lassie is a journalist, food writer and critic living in New York City. Her love of food and wine was cultivated by a mother, an aunt and cousins who are not only skilled in the kitchen, but get extreme enjoyment out of cooking and eating. She is also a dedicated home cook and has long seen the kitchen as a primary source of entertainment and pleasure. It wasn’t until college when the Mango Lassie studied in Madrid, Spain that she realized how important food was to understanding other people and herself. She knew then that she could be happy spending the rest of her life studying and writing about food and wine.
Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the Mango Lassie likes to imagine that green chile still flows through her veins. She moved to Portland, Oregon when she was five and grew up taking affordable fresh fish, berries and locally grown produce for granted. Portland is also a restaurant town on the cutting edge of culinary trends, and the Mango Lassie makes a habit of discovering new ones each time she visits. After leaving the bountiful Northwest, first to go to college at Wesleyan University in Connecticut, and later to move to Chicago for work, the Mango Lassie has come to appreciate her roots. Living in Connecticut and Chicago gave her a deeper understanding of the value of tradition and simplicity in food. Sometimes there’s nothing better than a slice of New Haven pizza or a Vienna Beef hot dog, topped with mustard and grilled onions.
