Haven't tried Five Guys in Chicago yet, though the Yelp reviews are pretty dismal. However, I can wholeheartedly recommend Edzo's in Evanston next time you're out this way. Great bun, freshly (double) ground beef each morning, fantastic garlic fries, and a limited menu (so that they get everything right). Only problem is it's gotten pretty popular, so go early or late over the lunch hour (not open for dinner).

You guys may be right that the problem is with the Park Slope location. Perhaps, as Maggie suggests, quality control across the chain has suffered as it expanded. When I think about it, the only really decent burger I've had from a chain was at In 'n Out in California. Even at my beloved Burgerville it's not really about the burgers, which are only OK.

ok, i'm just gonna put this out there: the five guys that i love are in hoboken and in the village. maybe they do them right at those locations. because their fries are awesome! and so are the burgers -- a far cry from "dry" and "shriveled"!

i'm calling in a hit on the park slope location from five guys headquarters!

I think people who grew up in the DC suburbs (where Five Guys started, I believe) have warm feelings about it from childhood. Also, it's possible that quality control has been lost as the chain expands. The Five Guys burgers I've had in VA have been quite moist, actually.

Didn't realize you guys moved to Park Slope! Congrats!
